5 Loaves Eatery serving the multitudes food made with Love :

5 Loaves Eatery has been part of the Southside community for over 16 years.  It chose to start on the Southside of Chicago  in the South Shore Community at the time because there was a huge lack of places to dine in or take out for the Kincaid families children.  They would have to get in the car and pack up their two girls and travel outside of their immediate neighborhood. This saddened them because they remembered when their community was vibrant and bustling with many restaurants and retail choices growing up on the Southside themselves.

The Kincaid family decided to open up a restaurant in their own community that they could walk to and feel comfortable feeding their then young children. 

 Mrs Kincaid had many restaurant concepts and names written down but non seem to fit.  She would read her bible and go to sleep at night, this particular evening she prayed for a name for their new restaurant. The next morning she randomly opened her bible to the Book of Matthew and the story of Jesus feeding the Multitudes with 5 Loaves of bread and two fish jumped right out at her. She imagined how strong Jesus faith had to be; although to the human eye the lack of food he had seemed like not enough..  She knew that her Family and support team would need this type of faith entering a Family owned and operated  restaurant business.  The name 5 Loaves Eatery was then chosen.

 5 Loaves Eatery belief and faith is; and has been based on the same concept, taking  what most would see as nothing or very little and having the faith to share and allow miracles to come about in our community.  5 Loaves realizes that food is often the catalyst to bring about change. It’s communal to  sit down with one another and break bread.  Breaking bread with one another, taking the opportunity to spend time with family and love ones, we believe can bring about change in a community that lacks the amenities that some neighborhoods may take for granted. Over the years  5 Loaves has become  a go-to destination for delicious made to order breakfast and lunch; but also a place that feels like home or that families members place that offers great food, great conversation and uplifts the spirit.

5 Loaves Eatery has been recognized and awarded amongst some of it’s finest peers in its industry. 5 Loaves Eatery was voted one of Chicago’s Best Ethnic Restaurants and received the 2017 Jean Banchet Award for it.  5 Loaves has received many other  miraculous accolades and recognition such as having one of the 50 best dishes in Chicago’s Magazine (Shrimp and Grits). WGN’s Chicago’s Best Fried Chicken, and so much more. Gratitude Miracles and Blessings have continually been part of 5 Loaves Eatery’s culture no matter the circumstance.  We love our community and look forward to the miracles it has in store for all of us.
